Perhaps we don't advertise, as so many do, to have the largest selection on the web! Thats because we dont want to be like most online fish sales operations - where hundreds of fish are shown, but inevitably unavailable or must be flown in from afar. Therefore, we maintain an honest and accurate listing of what you can actually buy.

Most of the fish we sell are bred by us right here in Louisville; occasionally, customers are looking for a very specific fish or want it caught wild. In which case we have the fish shipped in. Our facility is managed by Terry Boardman, formally trained and certified in fish medicine. His experience with fish spans more than a decade of education, including a Masters Degree from the University of Rhode Island, a fisheries research fellow with M.I.T., a researcher with the National Marine Fisheries Service/NOAA, and most recently certification in Fish Medicine from the University of Wisconsin Veterinary School.

All of the breeding colonies at Louisville Cichlids are housed in individual closed systems, preventing any cross breeding or pathogen transmission. Our grow out tanks are spacious closed systems with natural environments. All of the water at Louisville Cichlids is monitored daily to maintain pristine parameters. You simply cannot find fish raised under better conditions.

The future health and wellbeing of a fish can be influenced significantly during its development stage. That is why Louisville Cichlids puts so much emphasis on how these fish are raised. You just cannot compare the fish bred at Louisville Cichlids to those raised on some large hectacre farm in Florida and then flown over long distances.
